Want to know the types of trash left on NH beaches year round? Just ask Sally Baybutt, who has been picking up trash on Sawyer’s Beach in Rye since 2003 when her Daisy troop #12917 was one of the first groups to join our Adopt-a-Beach program.
The 5 and 6 year-old scouts along with their siblings and parents pick up between 5-30 pounds of trash each month and load it onto Sally’s truck, which hauls it to the dump. When the Girl Scouts can’t make it, Sally and sometimes her husband, Herb, pick up trash as well as drift wood for burning in their fireplace at home. When not picking up trash, Sally works in sales at a food distribution company in Boston.
Why volunteer? Sally says she loves animals and does not want more to die from eating our trash, besides making the world a better place to live in. She does!
