What better way to do something for the community and the marine life than cleaning up the beach at Hilton Park in Dover. That is what Miranda LaRocque thought when she suggested the Adopt-a-Beach program to members of to the STEM club (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) where she is president.
Once a month, even through the cold, snowy winter months, Miranda and other STEM members travel to Hilton Park to pick up trash and debris. Sometimes they get lucky and see crab shells, small fish in the tide pools, and spot many water birds.
Besides being president of STEM and volunteering in other activities, Miranda is a college student attending Great Bay Community College for associate degrees in chemistry and biology, hoping to go on to UNH next year.
