During the holidays it’s easy to purchase things because of the convenience and not think about what you might be purchasing. It’s easy to lose track of all the plastic you might be bringing into your home that will get thrown out after only using it for a few minutes to welcome the New Year. You know what I’m talking about: the whistles, confetti poppers, glasses and party hats plastered with the upcoming year. Well how about this year you ring in the New Year knowing you are on your way to being more green in 2017! For this #TipTuesday avoid all the plastic bells and whistles (literally!) and opt for a homemade noise maker!
This DIY Noise Maker is easy and quick to make, perfect to keep the kids entertained before midnight rolls around. Below are the tools and supplies you’ll need in addition to how to make these easy noise makers! Share with us with a comment if you give this craft a try!
What You’ll Need:
- Toilet paper or paper towel rolls
- Raw pasta elbows, rice, coins or any small hard object
- Stapler
- Paint/anything to decorate
- Optional: popsicle stick or wooden stick
Instructions:
- Paint the outside of your toilet roll and let it dry.
- Take your toilet paper roll and staple one side of it shut. If you are planning on using rice, you might want to use a bit of glue to be sure the rice won’t slip through.
- Add your noise maker. You can use uncooked rice, pasta, beans, small pebbles, whatever you might have around! Added noise: put little bells inside!
- If you are adding a handle, add a little glue to the end and secure the popsicle stick on the open side of the roll.
- Close the other end of the roll, again being sure it’s sealed completely.
- Now the fun part: Get to decorating! Use paint, crayons, markers or even fabric to decorate the outside of your noise maker. Make it festive and shiny!
- If you used paint or glue let it dry for a few hours.
As the count down to the New Year begins grab your noise maker and shake it as you begin your resolution to be more mindful of your waste and be better to the plant in 2017!
