In 2016, we picked up 1,700 straws during our beach cleanups. This prompted us to start our Skip the Straw project, in which we’re urging consumers to skip plastic straws and other single use plastic, and talking with restaurants about only handing out straws upon request.
Learn about this project, local marine life and the impacts of plastics on the ocean at an informative program at Smuttynose Brewing Company on Wednesday, January 31. The program starts at 6 PM. Smuttynose’s restaurant, Hayseed, has gone straw free (yay!), so come early and have dinner to thank them for their efforts to help the environment!
