Do you have a passion for marine life? Does spending a summer working on the ocean or at the beach sound like a dream come true? Then one of our internship programs may be perfect for you!
We have two internship opportunities available for our 2022 summer and fall seasons. Our internship allows participants to gain real-life experience in the fields of education and research. This position comes with a housing and food allowance. We have several openings in each of our intern program tracks this year.
Marine Science Education Internship
The Marine Science Education Internship aims to equip future environmental educators with skills that will help prepare them for an education-based career. Our interns will work with our environmental educators at the Blue Ocean Discovery Center located in Hampton Beach. Each intern will learn to educate guests about marine life in an interpretive setting, how to utilize animals for education and care for them, lead beach cleanups and how to inspire environmental change.

Whale Research Internship
The Whale Research Internship equips aspiring researchers with an experience that will translate into real-life skills as a researcher. Our interns will work hands-on with our naturalists at Granite State Whale Watch out of Rye Harbor. Each intern will work as a member of a research team searching for marine animals, recording detailed electronic data on the animals, behaviors, and marine debris, and educating passengers on the boat.

A Collabrative Experience
While we have two programs that function separately on a daily basis, there is also a time when the programs combine so the participants can get the most out of their experience with us. Each week there is an intern meeting. At the weekly meetings, the interns will hear presentations from special guests in marine science and discuss scientific articles.
There will also be field trips to relevant marine science establishments to gain professional knowledge and meet contacts within our network. In addition, there will be an opportunity for education interns to experience a whale watch, and the research interns, in return, will experience a day at the Blue Ocean Discovery Center.
Other Ways to get Involved
These programs are geared towards college students and recent graduates. However, if you don’t fit this age group and still want to be involved there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer!
