Beach cleanups are a great way to get outside, get some fresh air and make an immediate impact on the health of the marine environment. It’s sad that there’s always litter on our local beaches, but pretty gratifying to work as a team to clean it up.
Litter of all sizes can impact marine life from the tiniest plankton to the largest whales. It can hurt wildlife through ingestion or entanglement, and transmit toxins and even invasive species. Plastic items left on the beach can wash offshore, where they break down in smaller pieces, but never really go away. They may also pass throughout the food web and possibly even impact us when we eat seafood.
Help us clean up litter before it impacts wildlife or beach visitors. We offer beach cleanups every month that are open to the public, and also set up cleanups with groups such as schools, businesses and Scouts.
