Non-profits across the state are getting ready for 24 hours of giving, which kicks off at 6 PM Tuesday, June 11!
NH Gives is a statewide 24-hour online fundraising event designed to build community, connect donors to local nonprofits and generate excitement about the nonprofit sector.
During this year’s NH Gives, our goal is to raise at least $7,000. This will help us bring our whale data collection into the 21st century by transitioning from handwritten data to a customized electronic program. Already inspired? Click here to donate now
Since we started collecting data in the late 1990’s, we’ve used handwritten data sheets. We collect very detailed data, which then needs to get entered into a database. This causes a lag in our results and significant time on the part of our staff, interns and volunteers. Moving to an electronic system will increase the efficiency and accuracy of our data collection, and allows us to analyze the data more quickly. In turn, we can do more to help whales in the Gulf of Maine by more easily sharing our findings with the wider research community, resource managers, and the public through our educational programs.
Raising at least $7,000 will allow us to purchase a one-year license of the software and the necessary equipment to get started in this new era of data collection and analysis.
