Want to work outside all summer? On the water? With great people and cool animals? And make a difference in the marine environment while you do it? Then you’d be perfect for one of Blue Ocean Society’s touch tank internships!
We are seeking interns/volunteers for our two marine touch tanks – one located on the dock in beautiful Portsmouth, the other in the bustling beach town of Salisbury, Mass. This position will give you the opportunity to get hands-on experience in marine research and education. Volunteers teach kids and adults who visit the tank all about the local marine ecosystem. They also care for and handle the creatures of the tank, including sea stars, urchins, anemones, crabs, marine snails, and other invertebrates.
Volunteer/intern positions with Blue Ocean include opportunities aboard the M/V Thomas Laighton, a boat out of Portsmouth that visits the Isles of Shoals on a daily basis; beach cleanups; whale watches; and other exciting ventures. Interns should be friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic about our mission: to inspire the public to learn about the marine environment and help protect it.
The
position is open to anyone over 16. Ideal candidates will be
outgoing, creative, have a background in marine science or related field
(or be willing to learn quickly!), be willing to work outside in all
weather conditions, and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with
the public. Training and reference materials will be provided. We will
work with you to obtain college credit if desired. Scheduling can be
flexible.
To apply, please mail or e-mail a resume, cover letter and three
