Ever wanted to see a sea star up close? Have you ever seen a barnacle feeding? You can see these things and more at our touch tank, located at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company dock in downtown Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Touch Tank Hours

Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (closed Monday)

Storytimes every Tuesday at noon!

Our Sea Life Discovery Center features a state-of-the-art touch tank, interesting artifacts such as whale bones, baleen and a giant barnacle that came from a whale! You can also support marine conservation by purchasing a variety of merchandise. The center offers free admission, although donations are gratefully accepted.

Sea Life Discovery Center Summer Hours

Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Story time: Wednesdays, 11:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Cleanups on Wednesdays, time TBA
  • Feeding time: Wednesday & Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Food Web Poster - August 11 ProgramSPECIAL EVENT: Learn about food webs!
Wednesday, August 11 at 11:30 AM and again at 1:00 PM

Scientists/educators Dick and Katy Fralick will discuss food webs in the Gulf of Maine, and how what we have here contributes to the amazing whale watching and fishing in the region. There will be kids' activities, too!

Admission is free, although we appreciate a donation of $3 per guest when visiting the Center.
